20th Anniversary of the deployment of the Australian Force Communications Unit (FCU) and other Headquarters Staff to the
UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) on 12 March 1992. UNTAC remains the most ambitious and most expensive UN operation to date.
The UNTAC force of around 22,000 troops was lead by Australian Lieutenant General John Sanderson.

21st Anniversary of the deployment of the first contingent of 45 Australian Army soldiers to Western Sahara on 5th September 1991.
In all 5 consecutive contingents were deployed to provide Force communications to the
Mission des Nations Unies pour un Referendum au Sahara Occidental (MINURSO) - UN Mission for the referendum in Western Sahara until May 1995.

 UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.
