Australia: 18 Feb 2000 to May 2002
Strength: Infantry Battalion Group, Communications Management Team, Logistics Units, Australian National Command Element, RAAF and RAN Support. (Approx 1600 personnel each posting (6-mth) cycle). Total: 5239 ADF personnel.
AO: East Timor
After the success of INTERFET with
the securing of East Timor and the enclave of Oecussi, Australia contributed an Infantry Battalion Group force to the western border region (Sector West) of East Timor to prevent insurgency operations by the Aitarak Militia forces and under command UN Peacekeeping Force (PKF) Headquarters. Australia also contributed a Communications Management Team working to the PKF HQ providing telecommunications, telephone, data and communications infrastructure installations and management. Additionally Logistical units were provided under command of the Australian National Command Element.
Killed: Corporal Stuart Jones, 2 Cavalry Regiment, RAAC, August 2000.
Wounded: Approx 7
VEA: Schedule 2 (Operational Service).
Awards: AASM (75-) Clasp “EAST TIMOR”, and UNTAET Medal. MUC awarded to the 10th Force Support Battalion (10FSB).
